Help Learning English

English as a Second Language

Are you learning English as your second language? You are not alone. Thousands of Northwest Indiana residents are learning English as a second language.

Whatever language you speak, if you're living in the United States, you will need to learn English. Most Americans speak, read and write only one language, English. They will expect you to know English, too.

Your ability to communicate in English is a key component to success in America. Learning the English language will help you to become more independent.
If you do not speak English, you will not be able to become a citizen, or to take advantage of an opportunity such as a chance for a job. It will be difficult to get a driver's license; to attend vocational training classes or college; to communicate with your child's teacher; to help your children with homework; or to understand clearly what a doctor, lawyer, or other professional is telling you.

Where do I go for help? We can help.

English as a second language classes are held in many locations. Classes are offered during the day and at night. Classes are geared to beginners and for more advanced students.
