Time Out for Reading

A Literacy Awareness Campaign takes place 10/5/2012 @ 10:00 a.m. at the Federal Court House in Hammond.

You are invited to help make Northwest Indiana a reading community! On October 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., everyone in Northwest Indiana will be asked to stop what they are doing and read! Time Out For Reading will focus community awareness on literacy. Across Northwest Indiana, thousands of youth and adults will stop what they are doing to "Put Their Nose in a Book" and read.

Purposes:

What Will Happen:

Business, government, school and organization leaders throughout Northwest Indiana will be caught with their noses in books.
Through advance planning, encouragement and directives by top leaders, all other populations of each organization (unit leaders, department supervisors, principals, and employees/ members) will also be reading during the same time. These people will be following their leaders' examples and at the same time will be setting an example for their families, friends, etc. School children throughout Northwest Indiana will be reading at the same time.

All individuals throughout the community will participate simultaneously in a reading activity wherever they are at 10:00 a.m. on October 1, 2010. Activities include independent silent reading, group reading or reading aloud by a leader.
